To me, holo glitter is appropriate for any time of year, the only function of the seasons is that it gives us an excuse to buy all the holo glitters cause we MUST have that 2014 Holo-ween collection before it gets taken off the shelves forever, ya know.
See the swatch video for this collection here on Instagram!
In the past I've swatched Painted Polish's core line of holo glitter intoxicators, and let me tell you, they are fantabulous. The Holo-ween line introduces three new shades, one mixed gold/bronze holo glitter in varying size of hex glitters, and two jelly bases with silver holo glitter throughout.
Swatch conditions:
- As I've done in the past, these are 'amplified' swatches meaning that I've taken steps to amplify the impact factor of these polishes. To do so I used a similar-coloured opaque polish as a base coat (see below), plus my makeup sponge technique to maximize glitter payoff.
- All shots were photographed indoors under 2x 5800k compact fluorescent bulbs, never with camera flash.
- I used OPI's peel off base coat for easy glitter removal after each swatch, and kept my cuticles nice and supple with my favourite cuticle and nail oil.
- One coat of Sally Hansen's diamond shine top coat on all nails.
First up, Resting Witch Face, which is pretty much the best name ever, thought up by an Instagrammer with her head in the right place and her heart set on winning this holo-ween trio. My accent nail features spider web stuck on love nail shields from Love, Angeline and Painted Polish's 'Drunk on Holo' and '#PSL'. Resting Witch Face (RWF) is a dark purple jelly with silver hex holo glitter throughout. This is one coat of a similarily-coloured Revlon 'Indigo' as a base followed by two coats of RWF using my sponge technique (see below). One final regular brush coat of RWF to ensure some holos peeking through that lucious purple jelly and BAM there's a witch bitch on a mission.

I totally realize that I f'ed up on one of the spider web thread things, whatever, so sue me, I got my resting witch face on.
Next up is #PSL which is code for 'hashtag (#) Pumpkin Spice Latte', a social media twist on fall's favourite warm beverage. Well according to the average human being perhaps this is the case, certainly not for me (peppermint hot chocolate all the way cause I'm 12). #PSL is a warm gold and copper blend of different size hex holo glitters in a clear base. I've use OPI 'DS Glow' as a matching opaque base for all plain swatch nails, and a gradient of 'Resting Witch Face' and 'Black Widow, Baby', the other two holo-weenies in this collection, as the base of my accent nail. Featured are two limited edition black widow nail vinyls from NailVinyls.com made especially for this holo-ween trio. They can be used as both a decal and as a vinyl/stencil.

Here you can see how I've slightly modified two limited edition black widow nail vinyls that come with the purchase of the holo-ween set to create two adjacent widow's on one nail.
Bonus! Video I made a while ago on how to maximize glitter polish payoff featuring Painted Polish's 'Drunk on Holo'. I used the same technique for the holo-ween swatches.
Here's a shot of all polishes used including the complementary base coats I used under the holo-ween glitters to maximize their colour intensity and ensure zero bald spots. Plus 'Drunk on Holo' hanging out on the right because she made a guest appearance in the Resting Witch Face mani, of course, but check out my previous swatch of DOH here!
So grab some of that chocolate meant for those children, and stalk Painted Polish's Instagram feed for a sign on when the Painted Polish shop will be open for this Holo-ween holo glitter trio restock. Happy holo-ing!
