Colourblind eye test dotticure
Time to test your eyesight... what shapes do you see? Nothing? Not seeing anything yet? Ya me neither, but whatever, here's some confusing dottier fishtail nails!
Last Friday for the weekly nail art challenge I co-host on Instagram I did up some bright & black neon fishtail nails as a second attempt because THIS (down below) was my first attempt, and I was like, k no, ew. In my video tutorial on YouTube I asked you guys if you cared to see a tutorial for this dotticure that looks like those colourblind tests, and many of you said yes??? Why?? JUST WHY??? In any case, here it is!!

Neon half-moon dotticure nails - summmahhhh where art thou
MOAR NAIL ART MOARRRR I'm on a roll guys, maybe it's all the crack lines of glitter I did last week, can't be sure. The theme of week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey is half moon + neon! This is a relatively simple mani compared to my usual tendency to over complicate everything. But I did add a tiny bit of Twinkled T loose glitter sooooooooo it's still me (use my code SIMPLY for 10% off your orddahhhh!)
I used a gorgeous creamy neon Models Own polish named 'Shades' plus a white Color Club polish that goes by 'French tip' - you can grab them both from Live Love Polish! Check out their entire neon nail polish selection here! And guess what, today (May 1st) until midnight 12AM EST (that's in roughly 6.5 hours from now) you can get 10% off anything from Live Love Polish with my code SIMPLYMUSTBUY!

Pastel stripes and dots mix and match - Perfect for Easter!
Another girly mani, what's wrong with me?!? Actually it's pastel/simple nails week for the weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey. Okay so the prompt was supposed to be 'simple', but I never listen to rules, right? I wouldn't call this simple, but it's also not as complex as some of my gradient insanity soooo therefore it's simple.
I used a couple new polishes from Live Love Polish including a new Floss Gloss one and one from Models Own! New brands to me, and I'm lovin' them!

Bestie twin nails: Multi-coloured 'X' dotticure with The Nail Polish Challenge
It's that time again where we get together with another nail polish freak and act like 7 year old twins!! Let's paint our nails the same YAYYYYY. Say haaaayyy to Kelli from The Nail Polish Challenge's nails! Now that I've come to terms with my recent nail death and subsequent nubs, and after a brief debate about who's nail beds were longer, Kelli and I decided lets do matchy match nub nails! We are both in love with Glam Polish's new Hairspray collection, so we used three of their new holos. These shades will be available from Harlow & Co. for Canadian and American customers by the end of January!

Looping effect over iridescent teal
Found this one in my unpublished folder, looks like I did it in May. In any case, I'd bought KB Shimmer 'Teal Another Tale' because, well, it's teal, and it's sparkly, and even shifty. So pretty that I didn't want to interfere with its magical colour properties so all I did was add a simple white looping effect freehand design, some dots, and swarovski flatback studs for extra bling (picked them up at my local craft store).

The glitteriest holo nail art in all the land
Recently I posted four delicious swatches of Painted Polish by Lexi's holo glitter intoxicator line. The crowd went wild, kittens started meowing at record high pitches, and people died. Well, maybe only if a car came in 'drunk on holo' paint, then someone might die because of the reflective and sparkly properties which would in turn blind drivers in oncoming traffic causing a crash. That's why mirror chrome cars were banned from the roads, but whatever. Driving while drunk on holo? Amazing.
The Painted Polish shop is now open for pre-orders on all these holo glitter polishes and some new ones too as I post this. Shop now or you might miss out and you will basically regret it for the rest of your boring dull life.
Here's some nail art I made with these four babies. Now THIS is a real glitter gradient.

Tri-colour curved scaled gradient
Guest posting today over at Frankie Hunters Nails. Frankie lives in Austria and yes, some of her blog is written in Austrian... or is it German... what the hell do I know?! Luckily I did not have to learn a new language, and you'll find my guest post in English here.
Frankie asked me a few weeks ago to share a scaled gradient design with her readers and I happily agreed! The inspiration behind this mani was summery colours (all Essie), but not neon in the in-your-face-sense, as I wanted to go with a bit more of a relaxed summer colour scheme.

Green creme and duochrome quatrefoil: Third attempt
About a month ago I posted my second quatrefoil nail art attempt, and back in May I posted my first. The way I see it, the first attempt was a fail as I wasn't paying attention to where I was placing those goddamn first dots, as Margaret of @m_a_tom on Instagram so kindly pointed out to me (for her helpful hints, see here). The second was better, but I realized later that I'd placed the little ticks that extend from the dots at the wrong intersection... woops.
The 'quatrefoil' technique initially came out of the genius mind of Christabell Nails earlier this year, and many have gathered the courage to try. After this, my third attempt, I think I can go without the quatrefoil mani haunting my dreams for a while.

Floral vignette for a surprise mani swap
Last month ago the lovely Margaret of @m_a_tom on Instagram recreated my lacy work (in)appropriate mani and I was floored that she was so inspired to do so! The feedback on her version was amazing, and it is currently one of her top liked mani's on Instagram at 717 likes! A couple mani's later she created a sexy date night version with red and black polishes and my jaw dropped to the ground. Drooling. Not only did Margaret being so inspired by my early creation mean so much to me, but as I shared with you in my last post, she has truly been a dear by doing thinks like giving me personalized tips when I was feeling a bit frustrated tackling a quatrefoil mani.
To show my appreciation for her kind heart and her talent (the latter is a given), I decided I wanted to do a "surprise" mani swap for her. I know this isn't a 'thing' in the nail blogging world, but since she's already done a replica of my mani I wanted to choose one of my favourites of hers and return the love!

Magenta and gold quatrefoil: Second attempt
A couple of weeks ago I attempted my first 'quatrefoil' patterened nails. Originally conceptualized in video tutorial form by Christabell Nails, I was shaking my head at my stubborn little quatrefoils which looked more like blobfoils to me.I expressed some of my disappointment in my execution and the lovely Margaret of @m_a_tom on Instagram direct messaged me with a personalized tip! I mean, how sweet is that?! I got what she meant right away and 'quatrefoil nails attempt #2' went straight on my mani's-to-do whiteboard.
Here's the outcome, keeping her tip to focus on the spaces between the dots in mind!

Alligator green chevron scaled gradient
Gradients on a whole other level! I was playing around with my fav Formula X by Sephora polish, 'over the top', a subtly saturated neon lemon-lime creme, and this is what happened. I'll call this a 'scaled gradient' because it involves distinct and adjacent gradients that when right beside each other look like the scales of a fish or other reptilian. This colour scheme in particular kind of reminds me of an alligator. And the dots almost look like creepy alligator eyes. Oh snap!

Here's a random nothing special somewhat-skittlette that I created to try out some earth-toned polishes, two of which I recently acquired during a polish haul at Winners of all places. Great discounts = more polish to buy!

Holo quatrefoil - the first attempt
A couple of months ago the talented Christabell Nails invented a crazy-awesome nail art pattern using a dotting technique which she dubbed 'quatrefoil nails'. Based on what appears to be a vintage-looking wallpaper 'quatrefoil' design, this nail art is created using only two polish colours, a dotting tool, and a tiny paintbrush (or toothpick). Easy, right?
Not so easy. I didn't really pay attention to the technique or the execution, and I only watched maybe 20 seconds of Christabell Nails' original quatrefoil tutorial. Shame on me! That's why I failed, 'cause I didn't listen. Moral of the story: Listen to your parents, stay in school. Or just pay attention to the whole mani tutorial.

Heavy metal belt
Good morning! Well, for me anyway, it's nearing 10am and I can actually see sun out my window. Today I have for you a heavy metal look, inspired by a belt and testing out more uses for OPI's new chrome polish from the Gwen Stefani collection.

Sometimes you should just leave things alone
Two days ago I posted a 'returning' white to grey gradient mani which I turned into a chevron returning reciprocal gradient the day after. If that wasn't confusing enough, I decided to add some dots. What happened though, really, was that I thought the chevron mani looked like my kitty Menchie because of the grey and white zig zags, like her fur. But it wouldn't be like Menchie without some pink (the colour of her collar).
So, I confused an already confusing mani and ruined it. I blame the kitty.

Pastel ombre dotticure
Here's a quick and simple mani I did last month. The base is an ombre/gradient from white to mint green or from white to pastel orange on the accent nail. Over the base is a simple dark tip (all dark green with the exception of dark blue on the accent nail), followed by white dots and then the same dark colour as the tip using a small/medium sized dotting tool I bought from nailpolishcanada.com.
Finally, the whole mani was mattified to best compliment the soft gradients.
