Plaid nails and looking back at some better plaid nails

It's setback Saturday... can that be a thing?

I did some plaid nails for this week's edition of the weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) I co-host on Instagram along with Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey, because, well, I had no choice: the theme is jewel tones and the prompt is plaid. Therefore I had to put plaid on my nails. Good story, Cristine.

After I was finished I was not really feeling the design and I was all like "well why am not feeling this design tho"... and so I went back in my old plaid nail art archives and things made sense. I was so much better at doing plaid designs years ago, what happened?!?! Guess that's what you get when you commit to the vinyl, gradient and holosexual lifestyle.

Neon plaid re-creation mani

It's that time again where I lament over my old nail arts with its sad sad state of cuticle clean up, awkward hand posing, terrible photography, and overall bad everything else. BUT on the bright side, this also means it's time to re-create!! And since I have nubs again given my recent nail death, why not do a throwback thursday, or wednesday... what day is it?

Inspired by a Coach scarf

I know what you're thinking: It's basically May and I'm getting inspired by a (cashmere) scarf?! For what good reason would I have to wear such winter attire during the spring?! Well, if you haven't heard yet, I live in the North Pole (a.k.a. Canada), and I was actually wearing this scarf today. So sad.

A plaid mani from the archives inspired by a Coach keychain

We are going to a take a trip back to ancient history.... to November of 2010 when I was just about as immature as my wimpy nub nails. Although dated (obviously), the plaid design is now nothing new and its novelty has worn off, however.... I swear to you that I had NOT ONCE seen a plaid mani before I painted my fingernails some four years ago. So, at the time I was original. How many times have you heard this before in the mani community?

Inspired by a Coach Poppy keychain that is sooooo 2010, clearly. It holds two photos. Guess what I put in them... my cat (I had just the orange one at the time)! Do I still have this appendage hanging on my car keychain today? You bet I do. Are my cats still inside? Duh.

Obviously no striping tape was used back in the olden days of retro nail art, only my semi-steady hands. And no explanation is required for the poor photography (let's just say my camera was immature, too).

Red plaid from the archives

These were done on April 5, 2010. At this point it's pretty clear that my nails used to be nubbins, but luckily I've been drinking my milk so you'll notice that difference between ancient works and more recent ones. Actually it's not the milk, I have no idea why my nails have found enough strength to withstand growing past the length of my fingertips, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Years ago I was really into plaid designs. I did this one mostly using a collection of MAC cosmetics polish called a tartan tale, and obviously the design itself was inspired by MAC's theme.

Apologies in advance for the crappy photo quality (blame 4-year old technology and a lack of coherency in taking/staging the shots).
