This collection is the first to be released in ILNP's new chic packaging and square bottle style. So classy, mmhmm?!
Oh my goddddd drooooolll what theeee zzzzzooomyyygodddd aahkdha;hd;ahfahfhahdhlahflfzzzzz
Okay back to the meat of the stuff... swatch conditions!
- All shots were photographed indoors under 2x 5200k compact fluorescent bulbs, never with camera flash.
- I used OPI's peel off base coat for easy removal after each swatch, and kept my cuticles nice and supple with my favourite cuticle and nail oil.
- I applied one regular coat of flakies with the polish brush followed by a sponging on of extra flakies near the tip for each swatch nail. This gave it a bit of a flakie gradient look, with the most saturated/concentrated flakie goodness at the tip of the nail. Using a sponge to apply flakies is the same technique as the maximize glitter payoff with a sponge method.
- I used Cult Nails 'Nevermore' black creme as the base of all nails.
- The accent nails feature two flakie polishes per nail sponged on over mini raz nail vinyls from Up Your Nail. Watch the video tutorial on Instagram!
- One top coat of HK Girl glossy top coat by Glisten & Glow on all nails.
First up, Supernova! Cause this is actually a superhero in a bottle. This baby shifts from rich teal to blue to indigo to purple to pink and AHHH all the bestest colours in the rainbow. You might just call this the flakie-twin of ILNP's coveted teal ultra-chrome Sirène.

Next up, Phoenix! This would be the token warm-toned purple to pink to burnt orange ultra-chrome polish in this bunch. I'd think this is more or less the flakie-twin to Undenied, ILNP's pink ultra-chrome. For whatever reason the warmer tones in this polish decided to make my skin look cold and dead. So pretty much the amazingness of the flakies killed me.
I got my mind on my money and my money on my ultra-chrome flakies!! Helllloooo to Success, an emerald green flakie with surprises of silver-lavender shifty goodness. This is probably most similar in colour and shift to ILNP's classic ultra-chrome Mutagen. I'm not usually a fan of bright green polishes, but this one surely surprised me with some hints of iced violet/pink glimmer.
Gaia is a stunning green-teal-blue ultra-chrome flakie that is a must for all the teal lovers out there (HHHAAAAYY). The colour shift span is not quite as wide or diverse as some of the other flakies in this collection, but it hones in on one of my favourite parts of the colour spectrum thus exuding rich exquiste shades of teal. Bah, I die for this one!!
A classic staple in this collection, a blurple flakie known as Luna! Probably most similar to ILNP's Peace ultra-chrome, this flakie version shifts from indigo-blue to purple to pink to even hints of orange and yellow!
And lastly, my favourite of these 6 drool-worthy babies, here's Electric Carnival and dayyyyummm would I play in this carnival all night long. This has one of the strongest colour shifts, reaching all the way from a bright pink-red flash to yellow to green. Much like its ultra-chrome twinsie Masquerade, this is truly one dynamic nail polish that has people being all like "ohmahgodz how'd they do that?!" when you shift the angle of your nails as you shove your hands in their faces and say "LOOK, LOOK".
Here's the three accent nails you saw in these swatches with a twist. Granted that one of them kind of failed in showing the two different ultra-chrome flakies used (I did the one colour too far on the sides of the nail), nevertheless these unique formulas show how they can be used layered over nail vinyls. I used mini raz nail vinyls from Up Your Nail arranged in different directions partly as an experiment to see how well the flakies yield a clean line after vinyl removal. Instead of painting the flakies on with the polish brush, I sponged them directly on the nail with a makeup sponge - the same technique used in my glitter payoff tutorial.
Now let's have some fun with these babies! Two thin coats of each respective ultra-chrome flakie over some different colour base combos.
I put ILNP's ultra-chrome flakie Success over Nails Inc.'s Kensington, a dark green creme that was ironically introduced as a part of their launch of flakies collection in the Wyndham set back in 2011. On my accent nail I've layered Success over 3 thin coats of ILNP's Mega (L) (see swatches and review here). I first saw these epic new ILNP flakies layered over lighter colours on iparallaxe and Nail Art Sakura's blogs and thought well I must try this!
Oh how I love plum! Here's Electric Carnival over a couple coats of China Glaze's Evening Seduction. This combo really plays up the purples and pinks in Electric Carnival. The base polish on my accent nail is ILNP's AC Slater, which unfortunately I think is unavailable at the moment, at least on ILNP's website. I love AC Slater's grey holo glory - see more of that in this scaled gradient mani.
This dreamy blue combo is just stunning! Two coats of Gaia over Seche's Wonderfully Witty, a dark royal blue creme. On my accent nail I used ILNP's fan-favourite Black Orchid under the flakies (see swatches and review here). Makes for a pretty neat colour combo!
Here's the whole gang that came out to play with the magical flakies during this swatchaton:
And finally, how I could I end a flakies post without MATTE ALL THE FLAKIES (see Shit Nail Artists Say). Here's 5 of the new ILNP flakies, 2 coats over Cult Nails 'Nevermore' black creme, glossy with 'HK Girl top coat' by Glisten & Glow and mattified with Essie's 'Matte about you'. I think I used every flakie except Luna, which is what I'm holding a couple pics below.
Well phew, you still here?! Good cause these epic new ILNP ultra-chrome flakies are available NOW directly from ILNP's website - and they ship internationally!! Go get 'em, and stay tuned for swatches of the second wave of the flakie world takeover. For now, check out Chrissy AI and iparallaxe's fabulous swatches of the second half of the complete ILNP ultra-chrome collection!
Are you as excited about flakies for 2015 as I am?!
